“Hey, hey there,” he whispered to his son, who was done with screaming and was now cooing quietly to himself. “It’s nice to finally meet you. And there’s your mama, all tired.”

Zen pressed their son to Samantha’s chest, pulling some of the sheets away so that they could get some skin contact. Their son wrinkled his face but settled once more against her, his tiny hands curling together under his chin.

Samantha found the energy to cradle him in her arms, her cheek resting atop his head.

“Look at you, you gorgeous boy,” she muttered weakly before kissing his brow.

They were cooing so much of their little boy that they didn’t notice everyone else leaving to give them space. Zen couldn’t help but run his fingers over the soft hair atop his head, thick and black.

“Since you’re the experienced one, I hope that means you’re going to help me out with all of this...”

“Are you kidding? You’re going to have to wrestle this kid away from me with spatulas and knives.”

Samantha gave him such a look.

“Let’s hope it doesn’t come to that.” She leaned back into the thick pillows behind her to catch her breath. “You want to hold him for a while? I just want to...”

She barely finished before she was asleep. Zen pulled away some of the hair stuck to her sweaty brow, his free arm readjusting his grip on his son. He was fine with watching him for a few hours. It would be a while before she was awake again and he got hungry.

He ventured over to the window with the shades still drawn, wanting to get a better look at his son’s face. It was hard to tell what he was going to look like in the future, how his features were going to shape themselves over the years. But he didn’t care. He had a son once more, a child in his arms that he could call his own.

“I got a lot to show you, you know. And your mother’s going to help me. You’re going to be the most loved kid on this entire planet, trust me.” He kissed his son’s head and adjusted the blanket a bit more around his head.

“And when your mother wakes up, we can start thinking of a name for you.”

The sun was just starting to come up over the horizon, bathing the world in its new light. Samantha had been right so many months ago on giving him a second chance. He would still be in a dark place without it.

And wherever his brother was, he hoped he was utilizing his second chance as well.

How did my life become a sci-fi movie?

I found myself in a dimly lit dungeon, chained to a wall, and surrounded by other women sharing the same fate. We had to expect the wolves would strike back though. We started it after all. Humans; we always make the same mistake. "If we don't strike first, they will". Well, they struck second.

  And they struck hard.

Now, I was to be given away like a Christmas present to some Dragon Lord; beasts that the outer-space wolves respected for their might and strength. I was already scared and confused, but when I saw him...

No man could ever be this gorgeous.

Fear and desire fought within me like waves crashing on a rocky shore. But to my surprise, he did not want me to be his slave. He didn't even force me to stay. He was kind, gentle and respectful.

  Was this real?

Was I really here, with an incredibly sexy dragon shapeshifter, in a giant palace full of servants waiting on my every need, on a far away planet? Everyone I knew had been wiped out. This is the only reality left for me. I might as well see where this goes...
